It's important to note that John D. Gribbin, EA (the owner of Gribbin Tax Service)is an Enrolled Agent, licensed by the IRS to represent clients. Most preparers are not. In fact most preparers hold No federal license at all.

By doing business with an EA, you are assured of a persons extensive tax knowledge, ability to deal with the IRS on your behalf, if needed and receive client confidentiality, limited by law, similar to the attorney client privilege.

Regular preparer do not have this confidentiality privilege nor are they allowed to represent you with the IRS through audit and appeals processes. (If a non EA prepared your return, he could represent you at the very first level of audit only)

By the way, in order to receive the Enrolled Agent Designation, you must be able to pass the IRS's, 2 day, 11 hour exam, on all tax matters. (Not a piece of cake)
